Content Writing Problems How To Overcome Them

Content writing is a problem I encountered right from the time I started creating my first website and even face it many times today. But sadly, excellent content is the heart of any blog and outsourcing to others isn’t an option I have ever considered.

The problems most commonly encountered while writing good content for your website are:

1) I “don’t have” any IDEA: This is one of the biggest obstacles to content creation for your website. You have booked a domain name and fancy hosting account, but lack of good ideas for your website content is a surefire way your website dies a slow and silent death. Always choose the idea for your website before you delve into the technical aspects of setting it up.

2) I have an IDEA but I can’t write: If you think your writing skills match a first grader child’s writing talent, it is better to outsource your content writing to professionals. If that feels like a hard pinch to your pocket, use sources of content creation, where you yourself don’t have to rack up your brains for pumping out the content. A good technique is interviewing specialists from your field. Just keep 10-15 good questions ready and you have a page full of excellent material to publish. Taking a good copy-writing course will also help.

3) I have an IDEA and I Can Write but I get distracted: I get excited about writing an article about a topic I have an idea about. After two or three paragraphs, the boredom sets in … maybe because I don’t have much to say at all … or I get plain bored while writing.

I used the time-boxing approach to overcome this issue.

Whenever I sit to write, I decide a timeslot say around 45 minutes. In this time, I just keep writing whatever comes to my mind, no matter how gibberish it may seem. You can decide on any timeslot you are comfortable with, but don’t choose a very low timeframe, as you wont be able to even get into the flow of content writing.

At the end of 45 minutes I have loads of written material on my MS-WORD screen. Then I analyze the content for continuity and similarity. If the ideas seem too disjoint and irrelevant to the main topic, I aggregate the similar ideas into a new article. The other small ideas and written material that I have; I keep them for posting on forums and as useful comments on other sites.

Content creation has some common problems and most of them can thus be overcomed by self discipline and learning the skill of copy-writing.

Enjoy your content writing and don’t get distracted by your content writing problems!
